In the wild, tigers face a grim future.
Tigers are one of the most endangered species on the planet according to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora (CITES).
There are less than 1800 Bengal tigers and 400 Sumatran tigers remaining in the wild and their survival is constantly threatened by hunting and habitat destruction.
With three subspecies already extinct, the plight of the tiger is a serious problem largely caused by humans in three major ways: hunting, poaching and destruction of the habitat.
At the current rate of poaching and habitat loss, it is estimated that tigers in the wild could completely disappear within the next ten years.

Dreamworld Tiger Fund
Worldwide, only $5 million per year is injected to save one the most magnificent animals on the planet.
To assist, Dreamworld developed a Tiger Fund to raise money for projects that help save tigers in the wild.
Established in 1997, the Tiger Fund is designed to collect money through a number of activities performed by the tigers at Dreamworld. In effect, Dreamworld’s tigers actively raise money every day to save their own species.
To date, Dreamworld’s Tiger Fund has contributed over $1 million to tiger conservation projects in the field. This is achieved through a number of different methods:
- Tiger Walks & Photos - a percentage of the money raised from the walks and photos go directly to the Tiger Fund.
- Merchandise sales - A percentage of the funds raised from every sold copy of Dreamworld’s own Tiger Island video ‘Tiger Tales’, as well as a variety of other merchandise is donated to the Tiger Fund.
- Donation box - A special donation box is located at Tiger Island to enable guests to donate directly to the Tiger Fund. 100% of donations to the donation box go to the Tiger Fund.
- Television Productions - Funds raised through participating in television and movie productions have greatly contributed to the Tiger Fund.
- Direct Donations - You can donate directly to the Tiger Fund to help save tigers in the wild through a cheque or money order to:

How are funds allocated?
Donations from the Tiger Fund are allocated based on the following guidelines:
- The money is only used for saving tigers in the wild, not for captive purposes.
- Projects are well researched to ensure that the money donated has the greatest impact possible.
- The project must be considered extremely valuable where there is a direct link between the allocation of funds and the benefit to wild tigers.
Supported Organisations
To date, significant tiger charities and organisations to benefit from Dreamworld’s Tiger Fund have included:
- Fauna and Flora International - purchase new four wheel drives & required equipment and fund two extra protection units to support park rangers in anti poaching patrols in Kerinci-Sablat National Park, Sumatra, Indonesia.
- Pheonix Fund - help pay for salaries for anti-poaching teams in Russia including fuel, vehicle spare parts and equipment. Also assist with tiger educational outreach material for communities living with tigers.
- 21st Century Tiger Fund - 21st Century Tiger is a wild tiger conservation partnership between the Zoological Society of London and Global Tiger Patrol, which raises funds for tiger conservation projects in the field. Dreamworld contributes funds towards this and the office administration costs enabling 100% of all donations to be sent to the wild where the money is needed most.
