FlowRider generates a thin sheet of rushing water that flows over a stationary form allowing riders to drop in on their own unbroken wave, slide down, carve a turn, cut back and ride up the padded surface.
But you don't have to be a pro to be in the know, regardless of age and skill, everybody can now experience the rush of riding a wave.
Step 1: Belly on board
Place the base of the board just below your waist.
Step 2: Gentle entry
Place the board onto the flow and ease yourself into the water.
Step 3: Pull up, go up
To go up pull on the board.
Step 4: Push down, go down
To go down on the ride, push down on the front of the board.
Step 5: Use your feet as brakes
Pull your feet up to stop.
Step 6: Learn to turn
Point your board in the direction you want to go and then lean in that direction.
Step 1: Feet positioning
Postion feet shoulder width apart with back foot at the back of the board.
Step 2: Entering the water
With back to the water, push away from the edge of the mat using hands whilst using a 'shuffling' motion with feet.
Step 3: Going up and down
Put all your weight on your back foot to go up, and weight on your front foot to go down - be careful not to put too much weight on your front foot or you will wipe out!
Step 4: Learn to turn
Put weight on heals to move backwards, and weight on your toes to move forward.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Girls - We recommend a one-piece swim suit. If you choose to wear a 2 piece be sure to wear a t-shirt or rashie and we recommend board shorts. It is very easy to lose loose fitting swimmers with the rush of the water!
Guys - We recommend tighter board shorts or ones with drawstrings- if the shorts are too loose you may lose them!
*Denim shorts or use of underwear as swimmers not permitted. Items of clothing with rivets or sharp objects also not permitted.
Don't forget your towel!
Q: Who Can Ride?
A: FlowRider is able to be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Riders must be in good physical condition and free from any physical limitations to participate. It is a bit of a strenuous ride. Pregnant women and persons with a history of heart, back, neck, shoulder or joint problems should not ride.
If you have any special concerns regarding your physical condition, please consult a staff member.
Q: How Does it Work?
A: The attraction operates by high volume pumps generating a continuous sheet of flowing water (approximately two-and one-half inches thick be up to thirty-four feet wide) over a specially designed soft riding surface. This stationary “sheet wave” can be ridden just like a similarly shaped wave that moves in the ocean. Gravity allows the rider to ‘drop in’ from the crest of the wave and slide down to the wave trough. The rider can ride up the wave surface by setting an edge and letting the water pressure push him/her back up the inclined wave surface. Skill is required to control one’s position on the wave, and a movement too far in any one direction will result in a ‘wipe-out’, i.e., out of the power-flow and into the ride exit areas. However, in just a few rides, the novice can quickly learn how to turn, drop and climb on the wave face, and perform maneuvers, e.g., carving turns.
