Our Whale: A Scary Reality 

Our scarecrow may not look like a traditional scarecrow, but we think a whale filled with rubbish is a scary sight in itself.  

Created from chicken wire, our whale was brought to life with the help of our students, who collected rubbish from around our school grounds and used it to fill the sculpture. Every piece of rubbish represents something that could have been left behind, washed into a drain, entered our waterways and eventually made its way to the ocean. 

Our whale connects strongly to the theme Nature Guardians: Protecting Wildlife, Country & Tomorrow because it reminds us that protecting wildlife starts with the choices we make every day. 

Through creating the whale, our students could see that caring for Country is everyone’s responsibility. Something as simple as picking up rubbish, reducing waste and disposing of it correctly can help protect animals and the places they call home. 

Most importantly, our whale represents tomorrow. We want our students to understand that they are not too young to make a difference. They are the next generation of Nature Guardians, and the small actions they take today can help create cleaner waterways, safer oceans and a healthier future for all. 

Our message is simple: rubbish belongs in bins, not in bellies.
