About the design

Meet “Clementine from Clergate,” our sustainable scarecrow with a creative twist! Clementine’s head is a recycled dodgeball creatively decorated by some of our primary students, adding character and a splash of colour. Her body and legs are made from reused wooden pieces, while her arms are shaped with recycled wire for a bit of movement.

She proudly wears a school uniform, sourced from our clothing pool, showing off school spirit and the power of reuse. Clementine is stuffed with old cushions, leaves, and hay – all gathered from around our school and donations, giving her a comfy and eco-friendly core.

Every part of Clementine tells a story of sustainability—using what we have, keeping waste out of landfill, and breathing new life into forgotten items. Our school garden, located in a rural setting in Central West NSW, is lovingly protected by Clementine, not just keeping the birds away, but also guarding our cherished school chickens. She reminds us all that creativity and caring for the environment go hand-in-hand. We are a small school of 67 students, many of them having a role to play in the creation of Clementine from Clergate.
