Our scarecrow represents creativity, sustainability and our Gleneagle community. It was created by our Eco Club Champions, staff and students, from recycled timber, the metal frame of an old basketball hoop and straw. A donated aloe vera plant adds a living element to our design.  

The eagle design is inspired by our school’s name. The eagle represents our local identity and natural environment, while acknowledging and respecting the Mununjali peoples, traditional custodians of the land on which we learn and the totem, Mibunn, Wedge-tailed Eagle. Its wings and features are made from recycled plastic and metal bottle caps, collected by the school community. Each strand has a recycled key attached. As the strands move, the bottle caps and keys gently collide, creating unique music and bringing our eagle to life through sight and sound. 

Our scarecrow shows how everyday discarded materials can become art, movement and music through imagination and teamwork. It celebrates our whole school community and teaches students that sustainability can be simple. If we win, the prize money will be returned to our school, creating further opportunities and experiences for our students.
