Our School Scarcrow, Hay-Hay 

We constructed our scarecrow with the idea of protecting our school gardens from famished crow, kookaburra, and other avian pests. Quite a few of these animals are prey to owls, which is why we constructed Hay-Hay with an owl head using a stocking head, button eyes and cardboard tube nose. All/Most of our materials are recycled including, but not limited to, planks, stockings and hay. (Due to) Hay-Hay being a school effort, both the name and shirt design were student-illustrated in school-wide contests, as well as worked on by our Wednesday garden club (led by Mrs Clarke), along with other volunteers. We added flowers, leaves and bugs to Hay-Hay because one of the designs included flora and fauna. The shirt and shorts are donated school apparel from our clothing pool, albeit the shirt without our school emblem. We added the windchimes, which were spares from a past art project, to deter birds, while producing a calming sound on windy days to students. The palm trees are to replicate wings for our scarecrow. The flower crown features the same plant. We are placing Hay-Hay in the school orchard due to previous problems with pests.
