About the design

Our kangaroo scarecrow celebrates Australia, creativity and caring for our environment. We chose a kangaroo because it is one of Australia’s most recognisable native animals and represents the unique wildlife and country, we are proud to call home.

The scarecrow has been created primarily from recycled plastic water bottles, showing how everyday items that might normally be thrown away can be reused and transformed into something creative and useful. Other recycled and natural materials, including timber, hessian, string and straw, have been incorporated into the design. The kangaroo’s pouch and joey make the design distinctly Australian while adding character and interest.

Our scarecrow also carries an important environmental message: Reuse, Reduce, Recycle and Respect Country. It reminds us that looking after our environment begins with the choices we make every day. Reducing waste, reusing materials and recycling wherever possible can help protect our land and wildlife for the future.

Most importantly, this scarecrow represents teamwork, imagination and learning. By turning discarded materials into an Australian animal, our students have demonstrated that something considered rubbish can be given a new purpose, a new story and a new life.
