Niangala Public School - Virtual 

Building our scarecrow has allowed our Niangala Public School Nature Guardians to bring their learning to life by protecting our native birds on the amazing Country of the Dunghutti First Nations People. Our scarecrow has been transformed into a bug hotel to provide a valuable food source for the many native birds we have observed and studied at our school, including the Silvereye and Superb Fairywren. 

It has a repurposed hardwood plank frame designed to withstand the freezing winters, strong winds and hot summers here on the NSW New England Tablelands. Students have then transformed recycled, repurposed, environmentally friendly and natural materials into an inclusive five-star hotel, fit for the Queen Bee herself. Through an intricate pattern of materials woven into every available space, our scarecrow provides a home for insects from all walks of life. 

Our scarecrow celebrates our students’ creativity and commitment to sustainability and caring for Country, while demonstrating our commitment to protecting habitat, supporting biodiversity, reducing waste and helping native species remain and thrive on Country.
