Meet Mother Nature, William Duncan State School’s entry for the 2026 Dreamworld Scarecrow Competition. 

Inspired by, ‘Nature Guardians: Protecting Wildlife, Country & Tomorrow’ our students wanted to create a guardian who represents the important connection between people, plants, pollinators and Country. 

Mother Nature is dressed in a flourishing garden filled with flowers, bees and butterflies, reminding us that even the smallest creatures play an important role in keeping our environment healthy. At the heart of our design are our precious pollinators, highlighting how protecting them helps protect the plants, habitats and wildlife that depend on them. 

Most importantly, Mother Nature has been created using recycled and donated materials. From discarded art supplies, wool, bottles, old fabrics, donated building materials and decorations, everything has been rescued, repurposed and transformed by our students during Art Club. Nothing was purchased specifically to create her. 

Our scarecrow demonstrates that protecting tomorrow doesn’t always require something new. Sometimes, it begins by looking differently at what we already have. 

Together, our students have turned yesterday’s unwanted materials into a colourful guardian with an important message, protect wildlife, care for Country so we can grow tomorrow.
